"Take eat of it for....

"...this is My Body." Matthew 26:26

What is the name of the prayer on Covenant Thursday where we do the washing of the feet?

Bonus (+100 pts): Why do we do it again on Apostles' Feast?

The Liturgy of the Waters (Lakkan)

Bonus: Because Christ told the apostles that just as He washed the disciples' feet, they must do it for others and each other also.

100

What did Jesus ride on during Palm Sunday?

A colt

100

What was the name of the mountain that Jesus was crucified on?

Bonus (+100 pts): What is the uphill path that Jesus carried the cross on commonly called?

Golgotha

Bonus: "Via Dolorosa" meaning the "way of suffering"

100

When Mary Magdalene was crying outside Jesus' empty tomb, and Jesus appeared to her, who did she mistaken Him for?

At first, she thought He was the gardener

200

Complete the sentence Jesus said on the cross:

"Father forgive them for..."

"...they do not know what they do." Luke 23:34

200

During the 6th hour of Good Friday, the hymn of the right hand thief is chanted. What are the words to this hymn? (hint: think of what this thief said to Jesus on the cross)

Bonus (+100 pts): Why do we chant this hymn during this time?

"Remember me O Lord, O Holy, O Master, when You come into Your Kingdom."

Bonus: Just like the right hand thief, we are asking God for repentance and for Him to "remember us" when He is in His Kingdom.

200

How many pieces of silver did Judas betray Jesus for?

30 pieces

200

How many times was Jesus whipped?

(Bonus (+200): Why was Jesus whipped this exact number of times?)

39 times

1. Normal people are on the brink of death when they are whipped that many times and Jesus was about to be crucified as well.

2. Many say that according to Jewish law they should be whipped 40 times, but they stopped at 39 to avoid breaking the law due to miscount.

200

Who were the first witnesses of Christ's empty tomb?

Bonus (+100 pts): How do we know their testimony is true? (hint: think of how women's words were regarded back then)

Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, Salome

All four Gospels say women were the first witnesses. Back then, women's testimonies were regarded as worthless and were not valued in courts. If someone invented a story to convince others, why would they choose women as eye witnesses, unless they were telling the truth?

300

What were the last lines that Jesus said on the cross before He died?

Bonus (+100 pts): Why is this important? What does it reveal about Christ?

"It is finished" (Luke 23:46) and "Father, into Your hands I commit my Spirit!" (John 19:30)

Bonus: it signifies that God's will of saving us by Christ's death has finally been completed. Also, Christ died out of His own authority, meaning that despite all His sufferings, He chose to die at the exact moment that He wanted to, further revealing that He is the Son of God (both human and divine).

300

Which Old Testament figure do we read their story/memoirs?

Job

300

Name one of the parables that Jesus tells during Holy week

Examples: the parable of the 10 virgins, parable of the wedding feast, parable of the wicked vinedressers (tenants), parable of the fig tree, parable of the talents
300

Who asked Pilate for Christ's body to bury it?

Bonus (+100 pts): Who helped him bury Christ's body?

Joseph of Arimathea

Bonus: Nicodemus

300

Who were the 2 disciples who ran to Jesus' tomb? What did they find inside?

Bonus (+200pts): What does the object they found inside the tomb symbolize?

Peter and John

Jesus' linen clothes lying where He was and the handkerchief Jesus wore on His head folded in a separate place to symbolize that He will come again during the Second Coming.

400

What did Christ respond to the right hand thief on the cross when he said to remember him?

"Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise." Luke 23:43

400

What do the deacons do to resemble the actions of Judas on Covenant Thursday?

The priest and deacons denounce the actions of Judas by walking around the church twice in a clockwise rotation, which is opposite from the direction the processions are normally done in. During the procession, they chant a hymn rebuking Judas for dishonoring the law and Christ (we say "Judas" 6 times and "...who has broken the law.")

400

Whose room did Jesus and His disciples eat the Last Supper in?

Bonus (+50 pts): The Last Supper was considered the first what?

St. Mark

Bonus: The first communion (Eucharist)

400

What was the name of the man who carried the cross for Christ?

Simon of Cyrene

400

What are the requirements that Christ had to have to save us?

1. He had to be fully human and fully God (divine)

2. He had to be fully God and fully human together at all times (never separated even after He died)

3. He had to be completely sinless

4. He had to truly feel human suffering and fully die.

5. He had to rise again and save us

6. He had to fulfill all prophecies (ex. from tribe of Judah, son of David, ride a colt)

500

What did Jesus say to John the Beloved and St. Mary when He saw them grieving at the foot of the cross?

To St. Mary: "Woman, behold your son!" (John 19:26)

To John the Beloved: "Behold your mother!" (John 19:27)

500

Which of the four Gospels do we read on Resurrection Feast liturgy?

The Gospel of John

500

Who was the High Priest during the time of Holy Week?

Caiaphas

500

Why did they break the legs of the thieves beside Jesus, but not Jesus'?

They broke the thieves' legs to make sure that they died. However, they found Jesus already dead so they pierced His side. This fulfills the prophecy that says that not a single one of Christ's bones will be broken.

500

Right after Jesus died, the disciples forgot His words about rising again and they doubted. Why did Peter say, "I am going fishing" (John 21).

Bonus (+100 pts): Should we be afraid of death when we use Christ as an example? Why do we call death a "departure" in the church?

Peter said this to show that he was going back to his old ways of fishing. We always do this when we sin but Christ is always waiting for us just as He appeared to the disciples after Peter and the other disciples went fishing.

Bonus: No, because our "death" is merely a ticket to heaven to live eternally with Him. This is why we should not be sad when a loved one passes away. Why should we be scared of death, when our Savior conquered death?
