This is used for processing information, interpreting all the information from stimuli of the 5 senses.

Brain

100

This organ churns food, and produces acid to break down food

Stomach

Pitch is how fast or slow vibrations are moving.

Slow vibrations cause what type of pitch?

Fast vibrations cause what type of pitch?

1) Low pitch

2) High pitch

100

Two qualities of mixtures are:

1) Can be separated

2) Does not change into a new substance

100

Evidence of an closed circuit would be?

The item turning on:

-lights on

-motor- making noise

-fan- moving

200

This organ allows you to inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide

lungs

200

This organ produces bile to help break down fats and process nutrients.

Liver

200

Explain the motion of light of each term

1) Reflection

2) Refraction

3)Absorption

1) light bounces (mirror)

2) light bends (straw looking broken in liquid)

3) light is soaked in

200

What tool could be used to separate rice and sand?

Wire mesh/ sieve/ sifter/ strainer

Separating based on particle size.

A conductor________________________________, while an insulator____________.

conductor- allows energy to flow through (ie; metal)

conductors of heat would be metal/glass/plastic all of which allow heat to be transferred and why you wouldn't want to grab these materials from the oven.

insulator- keeps the energy in (rubber around a wire)

cloth/ fabric/ rubber prevent/slow down heat transfer which allows you to use these while grabbing dishes out of the oven without getting burned.

300

1) This organ pumps blood and nutrients to the rest of the body.

2) This organ protects you from germs from getting into your body.

1) Heart

2) Skin

300

This organ produces enzymes to help break down fats/proteins/carbs.

Pancreas

300

Mechanical energy is made up of two forms. __________ energy increases as you go up a hill. While __________ energy decreases.

Stored energy

Energy of motion

300
Particle size, shape, magnetism, ability to sink or float, are all what kind of properties that are used to help separate materials?

Physical properties

300

What does a switch do within a circuit?

A switch when open, causes an open circuit aka energy can no longer flow resulting it to remain off.

A switch when closed, causes a closed circuit which allows energy to flow resulting in it turning on.

400

These organs are used for removing wastes. State the organ and the waste

1) Lungs- removes carbon dioxide

2) Skin- sweat removes salts from body

3) kidney- removes unwanted liquids from body (creates urine)

4) bladder- removes urine

400

This organ absorbs nutrients into the body.

Small intestine

400

The definition of energy is....

The ability to cause change or create motion.

400

What are three reasons/ways for substances to dissolve faster?

1) Smaller particle size

2) More stirs

3) Higher/hotter temperature

400

What items could allow energy to continue to flow and allow the circuit to remain closed turning on the fan/lightbulb/buzzer/motor?

metals

500

Bones and muscles are connected together. Joints connect bones together. What causes movement of these body parts?

Muscles cause movement which causes the bones attached to the muscles to move.
500

The digestion system takes a long time to complete sometimes 10 hours. Different foods may take a longer/shorter amount of time. If the food is still in the stomach after 3 hours, where could you predict the food to be after 7 hours?

Intestines

500
When electrical energy changes into a different form(s) of energy this is called....

Example: Plugging in a toaster goes from electrical energy to producing heat energy.

Energy transformation

500

Explain how you would separate a mixture of salt, water, marbles, ping pong balls and iron filaments.

First, I would use a WIRE MESH/STRAINER/SIEVE to separate the marbles/ping pong balls from the salt and iron filaments. Then I would use water separate the marbles from the ping pong balls, as the Ping-Pong balls would float, while the marbles would sink. I am then left over with iron filaments, water and salt. I would use a magnet to separate the iron filaments from the mixture. Lastly, I am left with salt water... to separate these I would need to heat the water up until it fully evaporates so that I am only left with salt.

Tools/ order can vary

500

Why is this a closed circuit?

It is fully connected; each connection is to a different part which allows energy to flow. Evidence of this is that the light/buzzer/motor are on.
