- Altruism is an unselfish regard for or devotion to the welfare of others.
- The church in Macedonia gave to those in need despite their personal circumstances of persecution, flogging and imprisonment. They had sustained a severe ordeal of afflictions. Paul has written that the believers in the region of Macedonia had given generously to meet the needs of the suffering Christians in Jerusalem. Despite affliction and poverty, they gave beyond their means.
- To give generously and joyfully means to provide regardless of personal circumstances. Even when you have so little, you still want to share what you have. The parable of the Good Samaritan shows how the Samaritan gave his time, money, and resources to help a person in need.
