After witnessing that plain and precious truths were altered or removed from the "book", Nephi learned that the Lord in His mercy would not allow the world to remain confused or blinded (see 1 Nephi 13:30–34). Nephi saw that the gospel would be restored in its fulness through the “gift and power of the Lamb” (1 Nephi 13:35).

How did the Savior accomplish this? (1 Nephi 13:35-39)

Through the Book of Mormon and other scriptures.

The Prophet Joseph Smith taught that “many important points touching the salvation of man had been taken from the Bible, or lost before it was compiled”. He also said that he believed the Bible “as it read when it came from the pen of the original writers” and that “ignorant translators, careless transcribers, or designing and corrupt priests have committed many errors” .

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles taught:

Elements … missing from the Bible were both “plain and most precious.” They were plain in their simplicity and clarity, being easy to “the understanding of … men”; they were precious in their purity and profound worth, their saving significance and eternal importance to the children of God. (Jeffrey R. Holland)

Bonus 100 - Jesus Christ

"The tree of life is the central focus on Lehi's dream.  Everything points to the tree of life.  The tree represents Christ, who is the clear manifestation of the love of God. The fruit is His infinite Atonement and is great evidence of God's love" (Elder Kevin W. Pearson)

In 1 Nephi 16:17-25, 30-32 we learn that Nephi's bow broke while they were out hunting.  Their families were tired and hungry ("they did suffer much for the want of food").  Laman, Lemuel, the sons of Ishmael and even Lehi began to murmur.  Nephi then went and made a bow out of wood and arrows out of straight sticks.  Who did he go to for direction on where to hunt?

Lehi - Who was humbled and chastised by the Lord.  Then Nephi followed the Liahona and was able to find food for everyone.

Bonus 100 - What are some lessons you learn from this account that could apply to your life?

He didn't burst his bands, but "the bands were loosed from off my hands and feet".

President Boyd K. Packer (1924–2015) of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles explained:

You may think that Lehi’s dream or vision has no special meaning for you, but it does. You are in it; all of us are in it.

In what ways do you think we "are in" Lehi's Vision?

Many falling away - mists of darkness; many joining the church or making covenants and then leaving because of the world's views .....

500

What is this? What did it do? How did it work? What is it comparable to it in our lives?

Liahona, pointed the way and had messages from the Lord, worked on faith, most often compared to the Gift of the Holy Ghost.

The description in the Book of Mormon of the Liahona, the director or compass used by Lehi and his family in their journey in the wilderness, specifically was included in the record as a type and a shadow for our day and as an essential lesson about what we should do to enjoy the blessings of the Holy Ghost. (David A. Bednar)

Bonus 100 points - can you think of something else that we can all get that guides us in our journey to the promised land (eternal life) and could be compared to a Liahona?

Watch the video - Why do you think Nephi was able to "look unto my God, and I did praise Him all the day long; and I did not murmur against the Lord because of mine afflictions" (v.16) - even with all he went through?

My dear brothers and sisters, the joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives.

When the focus of our lives is on God’s plan of salvation … and Jesus Christ and His gospel, we can feel joy regardless of what is happening—or not happening—in our lives. (Russell M. Nelson)

Ivan had been planning to spend Saturday afternoon with his friends, but when one of them unexpectedly showed up with alcohol to share, he felt it was time for him to leave. He knew his friends wouldn’t be surprised because he had consistently gone home in similar situations in the past. As he walked away, he heard his friend Daniel say, “It seems like Ivan’s church won’t let him do anything.”

Ivan continued to think about Daniel’s comment as he walked home.

If Ivan were to start questioning his decision to walk away from spiritually dangerous situations, what would you say to help him Act in Faith and what Book of Mormon DM could you share that might help him?

What could you share with Daniel about the Plan of Salvation that will help him understand what kind of freedom the Savior offers to those who use their agency to keep His commandments? What kind of captivity results from rejecting them?

Your honest answer is correct.

1 Nephi 14:12-14 - Nephi learned about latter-day members of Jesus Christ's Church.  What stands out to you about Nephi's description of Christ's Church and its members in our day?  Why?

The phrase “armed with righteousness and with the power of God in great glory” [1 Nephi 14:14] is not simply a nice idea or an example of beautiful scriptural language. Rather, these blessings are readily evident in the lives of countless latter-day disciples of the Lord. …

… I testify that the covenant people of the Lord today indeed are armed with righteousness and with the power of God in great glory. I have witnessed faith, courage, perspective, persistence, and joy that extend far beyond mortal capacity—and that only God could provide. (David A. Bednar)

Bonus 100 for every team that offers a different answer:  What are some possible examples of people your age being "armed with righteousness"?
