Abraham and Lot had large flocks and herds, which caused conflicts between their herdsmen over grazing land. To keep peace, Abraham let Lot choose the land he wanted first. Lot chose the fertile plains near Sodom, while Abraham took the hill country. Despite Lot’s choice leading him near wicked cities, God continued to bless Abraham for his faithfulness. We can learn from Abraham to try to resort to peace when we can, and to trust that God will take care of the rest.

How is the Israelites’ 40-year journey like a believer’s 'wilderness years'?

The Israelites learned to trust God during their long time in the desert because they didn’t always believe in His promises. In the same way, a believer’s ‘wilderness years’ are hard times that help them grow closer to God and trust in His grace. Also, many times we turn and repent to God when we need Him, then forget about God when life is going easy, however we  beg for mercy and come back to Him when we run into troubles.
