Parts of an Expression
A single number or variable, or numbers and variables multiplied together that are separated by addition or subtraction signs

Putting values where the letters are
Substitute
Something that says that two things are equal.
It will have a sign "=" like this
Equation
Evaluate
Sum
Addition
A number on its own
Constant
Add or subtract terms that have the same variable and exponent
Combine like terms
Numbers, symbols and operators (such as + and ×) grouped together that show the value of something
Variable Expression
Says how many times to use that number in a multiplication
It is written as a small number to the right and above the base number.
Exponent
Multiplication
A symbol for a number we don't know yet. It is usually a letter like x or y
Variable
Multiplying a number on the outside of parenthesis to each term inside the parenthesis
Distribute
Something that says that two values are not equal
Inequality
The number that gets multiplied when using an exponent
Base
Difference
Subtraction
The most common are add, subtract, multiply and divide (+, −, ×, ÷)
Operation
The rules that say which calculation comes first in an expression
Order of operations
Two or more inequalities joined together with either "and" or "or"
Compound Inequality
the result of using an exponent
Power
Quotient
Division
The number in front of the term with the highest exponent
Leading Coefficient
The operation that reverses the effect of another operation

Inverse operation
These tell you what to evaluate first in an expression or an equation. Parentheses are one example.
Grouping symbols
Polynomial: The exponent of the term with the highest exponent
Monomial: The sum of the exponents
