Mystery
100

Where are the pencils found?

Back of the room

100

What is superposition

The geological principal that the oldest rock can be found at the bottom and the youngest rock can be found at the top

100

What is the first step of fossilization?

The plant/animal/organism must die

100

What is our classroom mascot ?

Otty the sea otter

200

You are doing a lab and a glass breaks, what do you do?

Tell an adult immediately

200

How many years is an eon

One billion years

200

After the organism dies, what happens next?

The soft parts of the organisim decay leaving only the hard parts (bones)

200

How often should you check aeries

To make sure you have good grades and no missing assignments, at least once a week! More is better :)

300

Mrs. Tibbitts is talking, but you need to sharpen your pencil, what should you do?

300

What is strata?

300

What can happen is a fossil is buried too slowly?

It can be eaten, decomposed/rot, or moved around

300

Off the coast of Mexico

400

Your partner is talking and does not have a pencil or twig notebook and there is only 30 seconds left on the timer, what should you do?

400

What is deposition

When layers of sediment are naturally dropped on top of one another ex: wind can move dirt and put it on top of rock

400

Explain how cast fossil works

An organism is buried quickly and the minerals form a mold or cast around it, the organism will decay over a long time

KEY WORD MOLD

400

What is metamorphic rock

Metamorphic rock is a type of rock that has been changed by intense heat, pressure, or the chemical action

500

Oh no you got a cold and missed two days of school! What should you do first?

Talk to a friend/partner about what you missed first before coming to Mrs. Tibbitts

500
What is an index fossil ?

A organism/ fossil that is common for that time period that can help identify how old the rock is

500

Explain how permineralization happens

The pores or holes of the organism are replaced with minerals, and all the tissue of the organism goes away leaving only minerals. Example: petrified wood

KEY WORD HOLES/PORES

500

Which part of the fossilization process takes the longest?
