What is kinetic energy
Kinetic energy is moving energy. All moving objects have kinetic energy
Which of the following energy transformations occur when a lamp that is plugged into a wall socket is functioning correctly?
Electrical - light
Energy transformations occur when...
energy changes from one form to another
Types of renewable energy
- solar energy
- wind power
- geothermal energy
- hydroelectric energy (water)
- biomass (material made from plants and animals).
What is non-renewable energy
A nonrenewable resource is a natural resource that cannot be re-made or re-grown at a scale comparable to its consumption
What are energy transfers
•Energy transfer takes place when energy moves from one place to another. Energy can move from one object to another, like when the energy from your moving foot is transferred to a soccer ball, or energy can change from one form to another.
this form of energy cooks food in boiling water
thermal/heat energy
How can a roller coaster gain potential energy?
Go higher
What is renewable energy?
Renewable resources are those that can be replaced or never runs out.
Types of non-renewable energy
•oil,
• natural gas,
•coal,
•nuclear energy
You see your friend in class about to shoot this paper across the room. What form of energy is represented when your friend uses the rubber band to launch the paper into the air?
Elastic potential energy
Discuss the energy transfers/transformations from start (Sun) to finish (light) and explain how it causes change for the light to work
•The Sun's energy reaches Earth through the process of radiation. Radiation is the transfer of energy by electromagnetic waves. The light energy moves through space until it encounters a solar cell. The solar cell converts it to electrical energy
Different types of energy transfers/transformations occur for the sun to power a light in a house with solar panels. Use a diagram or flow chart to help answer the questions below
Sun/Radiant energy/Kinetic - Solar panel/ electrical energy/kinetic - Battery/ chemical energy/potential energy - Flash light/ Light energy/heat /Kinetic
What does hydroelectric mean
What is water is used to create electricity
What are fossil fuels?
Energy sources that are found deep inside Earth.
when riding a roller coaster, you go up and down many hills. When do you have the maximum (most) kinetic energy?
1. At the top of each hill
2. At the bottom of each hill
3. As you go down each hill
4. as you go up each hill
At the bottom of each hill
Describe the energy transformations occurring in the person walking
•The energy in a person is the chemical energy that comes from the food they eat. Since the person is walking on level ground, there is a change in the gravitational potential energy. The person is taking steps therefore, moving so the persons chemical energy is transferred into kinetic energy. For the person to keep moving the rest of the energy is transferred into thermal energy but due to the friction with the ground, the kinetic energy is transformed into thermal energy, so the person keeps moving with constant speed.
•Chemical energy is being transferred to kinetic energy and thermal energy.

how is solar used to generate electricity?
Solar technologies convert sunlight into electrical energy either through panels that concentrate solar radiation. This energy can be used to generate electricity or be stored in batteries or thermal storage.
What is nuclear energy?
This energy comes from atoms.
What is solar, radiant, or light energy?
The energy from the sun
Describe the energy transformations occurring in the person cycling
You pedaling the bike is transforming chemical energy, supplied by the breakdown of the food you eat, into mechanical energy to turn the pedals. The chemical energy is potential and the mechanical energy is kinetic.
Explain how the roller-coaster move due to transformations between different forms of energy. By describing the relationship between the two main energy forms
•The movement of a roller coaster is accomplished by the conversion of potential energy to kinetic energy. Once the cars are lifted to the top of the hill, gravity takes over and the remainder of the ride is an experience in energy transformation. The roller coaster cars gain potential energy as they are pulled to the top of the first hill. As the cars descend the potential energy is converted to kinetic energy. Rushing up hills the energy is converted to potential energy, while zooming down the other side the energy is converted back to kinetic energy.
Not about renewable energy
what is the Law of Conservation of Energy
This law says that the amount of energy in a system never changes. No new energy is created, and no old energy is destroyed
Explain how fossil fuel is used to create power
Fossil fuel power plants burn coal or oil to create heat which is in turn used to generate steam to drive turbines which generate electricity.
