It's easier to find things, things don't get broken, your parents are happy, you have more room to play.
Why is responsibility important?
Because it feels better in the long run. You don't get a negative consequence and you have gotten the result you wanted.

It means I am honest about what I have done and I do whatever it takes to make it right.

This deserves a consequence because the trash should have been taken out right after you were told the first time.

You do the things you are suppose to do and you accept results of your actions.
You yell and punch the wall after you parents told you that your behavior earlier was unacceptable and you lost your video game for a week.
This deserves a negative consequence because being responsible means accepting whatever consequence you get for negative behavior, respectfully.
What could happen if you were not being responsible while playing with your friends?
Somebody could get hurt, you may do something to offend to some and may lose a friend, something that belongs to another could get broken.
