Students studying abroad in Montevideo, Uruguay for the spring 2026 semester will automatically receive up to $1,500 in a flight credit through this initiative.

A student's typical financial aid package including federal, state, institutional, external scholarships, loans, tuition remission, VA benefits, etc. may be applied to their study abroad program costs during the following study abroad terms.

The Access the World (ATW) program keeps study abroad costs equivalent to or cheaper than a semester at Rutgers for this many global destinations for non-NJ residents.

These programs are 3-credit fall/spring courses that include an international, 1-credit travel component that happens during term breaks (spring break) or right after terms (winter/summer break). Some of these programs may only consist of the 1-credit international travel experience and do not require students to be enrolled in an on-campus course.

Graduate students that are not in SMLR are only allowed to study abroad on these types of programs.

Students must be enrolled in this amount of credits during a summer session to have access to state and federal aid.

This type of program involves both inbound and outbound mobility, meaning RU students go to this institution to study abroad and the institution sends their students to study abroad at Rutgers.

Through the Access Africa initiative any student studying abroad for a semester at one of our destinations in Africa will automatically receive this in addition to a $2,000 flight credit.
