Programs are important for this reason.
What is community building?
Before any paperwork, you need to have one of these to make a program happen.
What is an idea?
You need to have these up at least a 4 days prior to your program date.
What are advertisements?
Do not let the program end without getting at least two of these.
What are program photos?
You need to do this within 48 hours of your program's completion.
What is a program evaluation?
True or False: A bulletin board is an appropriate means of programming.
What is true?
(Utilizing your bulletin board as a means of programming is called a passive program. The parameters concerning these may differ based on your supervisor)
An effective method for gathering information concerning what your residents might like.
Tip: You were probably asked to do this as a FY Student.
What is an interest survey?
This should be handed out and completed at your first floor meeting. It will make your programming attempts so much easier.
True or false: You may advertise your program in all Residence Halls.
What is true?
Yep! You may. Just make sure you clearly state when and where the program is taking place.
True or false: You CANNOT participate in your own program. Your role is to supervise and make sure everything is okay.
What is false?
You'd BETTER participate. Students will find the program to be more enjoyable if you appear excited and joyful about your own event.
You need to submit this with your program evaluation with your name, unit number, and program name written on it (preferably stapled/paper clipped).
What is a receipt?
True or False: You cannot cosponsor a program with someone not on your staff.
What is false?
Cosponsor with whomever you'd like to; just make sure you do your part as to not negatively impact your cosponsor.
This needs to be completed AND turned into your SAHD a week prior to your program date if programming for FY students, and two weeks prior if programming for upperclass students.
What is a program proposal?
You can submit your program on the ripon.edu webpage to have your program appear on this weekly email from Cindy Hutter.
What is the Calendar of Events?
Make sure to do so at least a week prior to the start of your program if you would like for it to show up.
This is the minimum amount of time you program must run to be considered an All Area/All Campus program.
What is an hour?
You need to electronically submit these via the ResLife Instagram account when you submit your program evaluation.
What are program photos?
True or false: You must reserve spaces in the Residence Halls if you would like to use them for your program.
What is true?
The RHDs often reserve areas in our Residence Halls for other RAs and Student Orgs on campus. We will not ask people to cancel their events so that you can have the space. Reserve these spaces when you get approved for your program by emailing the RHD of the building that the space is found in.
If you have the budget but not the funds to purchase your materials, this person can use the ResLife credit card to purchase your items for you (if given a week's notice).
Who is Director of Residence Life Mark Nicklaus?
This is an effective method of non-physically advertising your program.
What is word of mouth?
Sell your event! Build the anticipation and excitement! Just don't disappoint them when the program comes around.
This is an active and effective method to remind residents about your program; recommended for use no more than ten minutes before the beginning of your program.
What is door knocking?
Essentially, run to your floor and bang on those doors to get them down to your program. It takes this sometimes.
True or False: If no one comes to your program, the program will NOT count.
We understand that programming will have hits and misses. We will not penalize you for the lack of attendance IF you properly advertised your program and did your part.
True or false: You have an unlimited budget to program with as long as you can afford it.
What is fickity-false?
If you said true... we ain't BALLING like that! But, you will receive a budget from your RHD based on the number of residents you have. This can vary from RHD to RHD.
You need to turn in a copy of this with your program proposal.
What is an advertisement?
Your program cannot happen without these, so make sure you have them.
An effective method at keeping track of attendance.
What is a sign in sheet?
Pro Tip: Have this at the beginning of your program and near the most likely entrance. If you miss a few people, it's okay. Headcounts work well too.
You should talk to this person about your program and its successes and areas for improvement.
