Worship and Meeting Rituals
This usually happens at the begining of every gathering of Unitarian Universalists and involves a chalice and some specific words.
What is a Chalice Lighting?
This element marks the intentional gathering of a worship community.
What is the Call to Worship?
This element marks the end of the sacred time together in worship.
What is the benediction?
This is a time when people share something about their lives.
What are Joys and Sorrows or Sads and Glads?
This element indicates the opening of a sacred time together and gives a preview of what is to come.
What are opening words?
This is music used to move the congregation out into the world to live their faith and values.
What is the postlude?
This is what concludes a meeting or worship service of Unitarian Universalists.
What is the extinguishing of the chalice?
In this element we participate in the life of the faith community through our gifts.
What is the offering?
This is the music played during the offering.
What is the offeratory?
This is the time when high school seniors say goodbye to their home congregations and move off to college or work.
What is bridging?
This element inspires, informs, deepens, encourages, comforts and sometimes disturbs.
What is a sermon?
This is a message directed at everyone but easily accessible to children.
What is the Story or Time for All Ages.
This is when, usually babies, are brought to the church to have their name recognized. The congregation also pledges to help the parents.
What is child dedication?
This element invites us to center and become aware of what may arise from within us or enter our awareness from outside of us.
What is the prayer element or what is the meditation element?
This element marks the opening of our sacred time together and sets the theme.
