The Writing Process
Step One in the writing process.
What is read all articles Or analyze the question?
These paragraphs contain a transition word, a restatement of the root thesis, an answer, a quote from the text, and an explanation of how the quote relates to the thesis.
What are body paragraphs?
This text structure describes items or events in order or tells the steps to follow to do something or make something.
What is sequence?
A sentence describing a picture.
What is a caption?
Language that is different from it's literal or usual meaning. Saying something in terms of something else.
What is figurative language?
Step two in the writing process.
What is read all articles or analyze the question?
This paragraph contains a hook, background information and a thesis statement.
What is the introduction?
Shows how two or more things are alike and/or how they are different.
What is Compare and Contrast?
Found in the back of the book and tells what important words mean. Arranged in alphabetical order.
What is a glossary?
The feeling that comes with a word.
What is connotation?
Step three in the writing process.
What is create a graphic organizer?
This is the last sentence of the first body paragraph.
What is a thesis?
Describes events in history in order based on dates, days of the week, or time.
What is chronological?
Provides you with a clue of what the article will be about. Usually at the top, centered, and bold.
What is a Title/Headline/Heading?
The dictionary definition of a word.
What is the denotation.
Step four in the writing process.
What is write a rough draft?
This paragraph wraps up your main ideas and restates your entire thesis.
What is the conclusion?
Noting a relationship between actions or events such that one or more are the result of the other or others.
What is cause and effect?
located in the front and tells you units, chapters, headings, and pg numbers.
What is a table of contents?
This is similar to denotation.
What is technical meaning?
Step five in the writing process.

What is an index?
Knowing the literal meaning of a word or phrase is not always enough. It's also a good idea to pay attention to THIS- it will help you figure out if an author is using a word for its technical, connotative, or figurative meaning.
