What is the difference between a "theme" and a "moral"?

The “moral” of a story is the lesson the reader is supposed to learn, like “Honesty is the Best Policy.” A “theme” in a story is just a general pattern of things that happen repeatedly, but not exactly the same thing. This is not necessarily a lesson to be learned.
