The British wanted to expand their farmland and started cutting down forests to do so. The French felt that this was threatening their profits with the fur trade.

A tax on any product containing sugar and the colonists felt it was unfair.

Paul Revere coined this a "massacre" and portrayed the British soldiers as violent killers murdering colonists. This outraged colonists and many started to support the Sons of Liberty and other patriots.
