The Red Scare was the American fear of Communism.  They became suspicious of anything different and especially immigrants.  It started when a postal worker found bombs in packages to be delivered to famous people.  Sacco and Vanzetti were found guilty and executed for robbery and murder based on circumstantial evidence.

People who were making their own alcohol were called bootleggers and the alcohol could be more dangerous than alcohol before Prohibition.  This led to some criminals getting rich.  Al Capone was a gangster who was known to kill his bootlegging competition.

Fundamentalism is the literal, word-for-word belief in the Bible.  In some cities in the 1920s it was illegal to teach evolution because it contradicted Fundamentalism.  John Scopes was put on trial and found guilty for teaching evolution.  Later the Supreme Court overturned the ruling.
