What is the role of the "Lookout"?

When the first employee, called the "Lookout" gets to the branch, they should wait in a locked car outsife and wait for the second employee. They should park where they can see the employee entrance AND the all clear.

What are the duties of first and second walk? 

First Walk:Check branch, make sure important/sensitive information like member information are locked up and put away. Check the whole branch, even the bathroom and closets to make sure no one is there who shouldnt be. 

Second Walk: Verification that first walk was completed correctly

What should you do during a robbery?

#1: Stay Calm 

#2 Follow the robbers instructions exactly

#3 Give the demanded amount (Perform CM EMPTY)

#4 Observe the robbers appearance

#5 Assume the robbers weapon is real 

#6 Activate the silent alarm ONLY when its safe 

#7 Observe the Escape direction, vehicle and license plate.

What do you do after a robbery takes place?

#1 Immediately inform a supervisor and coworkers of the robbery

#2 Lock the branch entrance doors 

#3 Ask non employees, who were present during the robbery, to remain at the branch to speak with police. If they do not wish to remain at the branch, collect their name and contact information. 

#4 Lock Cash drawers not touched by robber 

#5 Retain evidence and secure touched areas after the robbery 

#6 Distribute robbery assignment cards and description forms.

What is the maximum authorized cash on hand for any individual operator? (if operating out of drawer) Whats the maximum we are allowed to have in the top cash drawer during operating hours? ( recycler, cash in drawer )

Max authorized cash on hand is $10,000

Max in the top cash drawer is $3,000

Whats the role of the "Searcher"? 

The second employee, called the "Searcher," should check the outside of the branch for signs of break-ins or anything strange. If they see anything suspicious, they shall not go inside.

What should you NOT do during a robbery? 

#1 Draw unusual attention to themselves 

#2 Scream, faint, or prevent robber from taking money

#3 Argue with or antagonize the robber 

#4 Try to delay to stall the robbery

#5 Use a cell phone if a bomb threat is made 

#6 Presume a weapon is fake 

#7 Make sudden or irregular movements 

#9 Open the door or follow the robber 

#10 Disclose any information to the media

What are the assignment cards? What is the victims assignment card?  

The assignment cards give every person a specific duty. The victim of the robbery will ALWAYS be given assignment card #6

What is our current all clear sign? How often do we change this? 

Our current all clear is the yellow lane switched to "closed" and we update these once a quarter.

Whats the standard procedure for leaving the building once everyone is completed with closing duties? 

When everything is checked and the team is ready to go, one person leaves the branch and goes to their vehicle while the remaining team members stay inside the locked building. Those inside watch the person who exited to make sure they got to their vehicle safely. The last person turns on the security alarm, exits the branch and re-locks the door, while the first-person watches from their locked vehicle in the parking lot. Once everyone is safely in their vehicle, they must all leave the parking lot together.

How can we help prevent a robbery from happening? 

1. Be aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious behavior or activity – even if you think you’re being paranoid. Make notes of details such as physical descriptions, times and dates, and license plate numbers.

2. If you are not actively assisting a member with a cash transaction, keep cash off counters and out of view

3. Look at members and other people in the eye and acknowledge their presence. Doing so not only makes them feel welcome; it lets them know you’ve seen them.

4. Do not discuss security and robbery procedures with anyone outside the credit union, even family and friends.

5. Branch management should build a relationship with local law enforcement and establish protocols for responding to a robbery
