He has no money because he has used it all to pay the ransom for his son who was captured as a prisoner in the crusades. Even worse, he had to borrow some money from the Abbot and has been taxed so severely that the now cannot pay it back.
What will happen if Sir Richard cannot pay back the Abbot?
The Abbot will take Sir Richard's home and lands from him, and he will have to go do military service in the Holy Land.
What does Robin Hood do to help Sir Richard?
He gives him the 400 pounds that he needs to repay the Abbot. He also gives him some new clothes.
What must Sir Richard do in return?
