Yes, we use the Golden Rule in our class. The Golden Rule is to treat others the way you'd like to be treated.

The Community Center! These items are for everyone in class to SHARE. If you take something from the community center, you have to put it back after you're done using it.

Jessica is having a hard time with her assignment, Lara decides to just do the work for her. Does this help Jessica?

No, if you do your friends work or just give them answers, they're going to struggle on the test later. You want to help your friends LEARN not cheat. Cheating is an automatic Step 4 for both students involved. Don't put yourself in that situation!

James decided to run inside the classroom to get materials, would he earn a Step for doing this?

Yes, James shouldn't run in the classroom because he could cause an unnecessary accident.

The teacher is talking to the class, and Jimmy decides to start talking/whispering to his friend next to him. How does this affect our classroom?

Jimmy is interrupting the teacher and creating a distraction; not just for himself but for his friend and those around him.

Jeff really has to use the bathroom, should he just leave the classroom without asking the teacher?

No. Jeff needs to inform the teacher. Students are not allowed to leave the classroom without the teacher's permission.

Jasmine wants to get paper from the paper closet for her free art time, should she just grab big stacks and bring it to her desk?

No, Jasmine should only take what she's going to use. She can always get more if needed.

They can ask Gary if he needs a friend or needs space.

Your hands, feet, and objects. We are a hands-off school and everybody deserves to feel safe.

Frankie is not honoring Kayla's personal space. He needs to ask Kayla for permission to use her items, and if she said no, he can use the Community Items on the counter.

Paulina is having a hard morning, she woke up late and had to rush. She decides that she's not going to do her work or follow directions. Will this make Paulina's day better or worse?

Worse. Paulina gets to decide what kind of day she has in school. Some days may start hard, but it doesn't have to stay that way!

Kevin bought a 'My Time' pass and decides to bring out the Legos under the counter; when it's time to clean up he just leaves the bin next to the counter. What should Kevin do instead?

Kevin needs to be responsible and put the items away where he found it. When we leave items out, we tend to lose pieces and then others can't enjoy it. Kevin would receive a Step for not taking care of class materials.

The class is working on an activity, but Lola doesn't want to do it. Can Lola just skip the task?

No, Lola is responsible for her work just like her classmates. She can get support by working with a partner or she can work on it during recess time.

Lilly is sitting next to her best friend in class, she decides to poke her with her pencil; she's just 'messing around' and they're BEST FRIENDS, would Lilly earn a Step for this behavior?

Yes, just because you consider it a 'joke' doesn't mean that others do. Plus, our school-wide expectation is to keep our hands, feet, and objects to ourselves.

Rachel was put on Step 1 for talking during her classmate's presentation; she gets upset for being given a warning and decides to keep being disruptive. What happens next for Rachel?

Rachel will move to Step 2 and spend some time in the Calming Corner/Think Chair. If Rachel's behavior continues she would move to Step 3 and lose a privilege.

Jack should apologize, tell a teacher, and help Jill to the nurse's office. Accidents happen, it's how we handle them that's important.

They should have a Peace Rose meeting or ask the teacher for support.

Jake keeps distracting his friend Jim during math. He's asked Jake to stop, but he just keeps bothering him. What should Jim do?

Jim should first tell the teacher, she can move Jake if needed. Jim can also ignore Jake and move away from him to solve the problem.

Your desk is considered a classroom materials, how can you make sure you're taking care of it?

By making sure it stays clean and organized. You also take care of it by making sure you wipe it down each day during end of the day clean up.

When you notice someone is being 'left-out', what can you do?

You can be a leader who takes initiative. You can invite them to play with you, sit with them, or bring your group of friends to them! When we include others we can change someone's entire day.
