The Woman of Substance

Betty Jean Sanders (Betty Shabazz)

Married to civil rights activist Malcolm X, Betty Shabazz would become a young widower in 1965 after the public assassination of her husband. Then pregnant with twin daughters, Shabazz was left to care for her four daughters alone. For three weeks after the death of Malcolm, Betty would not sleep. She then took a pilgrimage to Mecca where she would find the strength to return to her six children. After returning to the US Betty threw herself in the care and education of her children. While educating her six children, Betty furthered her education by receiving her Masters in Public Health Administration. Her daughter would later attempt to hire a hitman to kill the man accused of setting up the assassination of her father Malcolm. Shabazz's life would end on June 23, 1997 after a house fire set by her grandson.

Three facts about the Circle of Affirmation

The Circle, which has neither beginning nor end, is the figure symbolic of the number one. The circle and its center, which is a point that can represent the center of the world, is the place of focusing that unifies all the parts. The sphere, the seed, and the nest symbolize the unit and eternity. As a circle is never-ending our love for our SISTUHS is never
