Transition into the classroom from the hallway
-silent in the halls -walk into the room and go straight to your seat -look at the board for instructions -level 0 -gather any materials you need for class

If you finish your work before everyone else, what should you do?
-do work that was assigned to you by the teacher -grab a worksheet in the back of the room -work on assignments for other classes -stay at a level 0 -do not disturb other students

You should always come to class prepared. What does this mean?
-have all your materials ready (pencils, papers, any work that is due) -follow all instructions -leave your problems at the door -ready to work for a WALK point

What does SLANT stand for? What are MVP directions?
S-sit up L-listen A-ask questions N-nod your head T-track the speaker M-movement, V-voice, P-participation

If your pencil needs to be sharpened or you need a writing utensil, what should you do?
-trade for a pencil -ask a friend for an extra writing utensil -return the pencil if you borrow one

What are the expectations if I have to go to the bathroom?
-raise hand to ask if you may go -take the hall pass -you should not take more than 5 minutes -if we go as a class, we need to be at level 0, rocking our blocks in a line -most teachers will give you an opportunity to go multiple times a day. Please try to utilize this and not waste class time.

If worse comes to worse and you forget the hand signals, what should you do?
-raise your hand -look at the poster

Because this is a lab, there are certain things we should never do. What are some of these things?
-eat in lab * -drink in lab * -touch items without permission -do not throw anything -get out of your seat without permission

-it is your responsibility to make up missed work -talk to the teacher at the beginning of class during brainwork about work you have missed -ask the teacher good times to make up work

If worse comes to worse and you don't remember what voice code you're on, what should you do?
-ask the teacher -level 0 -look to the board

Participating in labs requires us to work in groups. What does superior group work look like?
-Collaboration -Following instructions -On task -Staying at a level 2 or 3 voice code -Staying at your desks -Completing your work at 100%

-no checking/name calling/bullying -manners -hold ourselves and peers to high expectations

I see something called behavior beakers in the back... what is that about?
-one for each grade -competition to see who can behave the best in science lab -the number of points is based on the number of people who get a WALK point in my class -winner is decided at the end of 2 weeks

Jobs in the classroom
-teacher will assign jobs (Popsicle sticks) -do not ask to do a job -if you do not want to do your job, you need to assign it to someone else -do not assume that a job is yours -new people for jobs each day

When the teacher is giving a signal to stop talking, what should students do?
-get to level 0 -SLANT -make sure students around them are following instructions -listen

We will talk a lot about technology in this class, but that doesn't mean we can use our technology during class. What should you keep in your book bag?
-Cell phones -Ipods/MP3 players -computers -headphones *Use your judgement!*

Westside grades for Mastery... What does this mean?
-once you understand the material, you do not need to test on it anymore -you can re-take assignments until you master material -80% or above -material that is related to SPIs will be graded

I see Lab Allstars and Lab Masters... what are those?
-Lab Allstars are people who get 100% on any quiz or test -Lab Masters tracks each students' mastery
