2. What is required to be present on the instrument packaging in order for it to be accepted. (Hint: what would you look for to "reject" the instrument?)

1. All soiled instruments are placed in a clearly marker Biohazard - Soiled Instrument Container.  Instruments are taken to GVH for sterile processing and transported via the Soiled Instrument Container, coordinating drop-off with Sterile Processing or ED. Sterile processed items are picked up at the surgery currently.

2. All items are inspected for:

- Broken seals of packaging

- Sticker with expiration date

- Sterilized indicator with ACCEPT status

- Any items found to have broken seals, no expiration sticker, or the sterile indicator read REJECTED - place the instrument in the soiled instrument container for re-processing.

*Remember- any disposable kit items can not be sterilized and must be placed in the sharps container, even if unused.
