Russians have a hearty diet that uses a lot of root vegetables, such as beets, carrots, onions, and potatoes. This is because they grow well in the cool Russian climate and are warm, filling foods for the cold Russian winters. Traditional Russian dishes include blinis and borscht. Tea is a traditional beverage.

Describe Russia's Climate

Although Russia has many extreme climates, it is mainly a cold-weather country. Some areas can have temperatures as low as -96oF. However, during the summer some areas can have temperatures as high as 100oF.

The establishment of the Soviet government in the early 1920s led to the censorship of literature in Russia. The Soviet era, though, produced strong works of art in other media. The Soviets used the arts for propaganda to try to influence the opinions of the Russian people.
