what does the word static mean?

still or not moving.

100

what is the unit and symbol for voltage?

Volts (V)

100

what is the unit and symbol for Current?

Amps (A)

100

which circuit is series and which one is parallel?

left = parallel

Right = series

100

what is an independent variable?

the ONE thing you change during an experiment.

200

which is a conductor?

A material that allows electricity to flow through it.

200

What is Voltage?

Voltage is the electrical force that pushes electrons through a circuit.

200

What is current?

Current is the flow of electrons through a circuit.

200

 what does this symbol represent?

a switch (off)

200

Explain the 2 steps required to work out an average (mean)

1. Add up all the numbers

2. Divide the total by the number of numbers

300

which of these is a conductor:

copper or glass?

copper

300

True or False:

Voltage is the same at every point of a parallel circuit.

True!

300

True or False:

Current is the same at every point of a parallel circuit.

False!

  • The current splits at a junction.
  • The total current from the power supply equals the sum of the currents in all branches.

Draw the symbol of a resistor.

A student measures the electricity used by a small heater over 5 days. The electricity usage (in kWh) is:

12, 15, 11, 14, 18

Calculate the mean electricity usage of the heater over the 5 days.

Average =512+15+11+14+18

Average =70/5

Average = 14!

400

Name the 3 fossil fuels.

Natural Gas, Crude Oil and coal.

400

What will the voltage be at points D, E and F?

D = 5V

E = 5V

F = 5V

400

What will the current be at points Y and Z?

Y = 3A

Z= 3A

400

Draw how you would measure the current and voltage of the bulb in this circuit.

Ammeter connected in series

Voltmeter connected in parallel

400

what is wrong with this graph?

The Scale on the Y axis is not even.

500

Name a disadvantage of wind turbines.

  • There isn't always wind
  • They can kill birds.
500

What will the voltage be at points A, B and C?

A = 9 V

B = 9 V

C = 9 V

500

What will the current be at points A and B?

A = 2A

B = 2A

500

Describe an advantage of parallel circuits that make them better than series circuits.

  • If you add more light bulbs, they all shine with the same full brightness because each branch gets the full power (voltage) from the battery.

  •  If one bulb breaks, burns out, or is unplugged, the other bulbs keep shining. Each part has its own route back to the battery.

  • You can put a switch on one specific branch to turn just one light or buzzer on and off without affecting the others.
