What are Engineering controls?

Engineering controls include, but are not limited to:

  1. Use of dust collection systems which are available for many dust generating tools and equipment. As with the TBM mining, a scrubber system will be used to mitigate the dust out of the head to treat and release;

  2. Wetting down the grinding or cutting surface to reduce dust emissions;

  3. During saw cutting, use equipment that provides water to the blade;

  4. During rock drilling, use water through the drill stem to reduce the amount of dust in the air;

  5. During abrasive blasting, use abrasives with a low silica or no silica content; and

  6. Use local exhaust ventilation to prevent dust from being released into the air.
