Our lectionary has a three-year cycle. We are currently in Year B of the lectionary, which means our Gospel readings will mostly come from Mark. Name one or more ways in which Mark's Gospel differs from the others.

- Mark is shorter overall (16 chapters)

- Mark uses the word "immediately" frequently

- Mark's accounts of particular stories are often longer than Matthew or Luke's description of the same stories

- Mark's gospel includes lots of questions

- Mark frequently writes in the "historical present" rather than past tense

- Mark uses very plain Greek

On Saturday, February 3, Saint Anne's will host a Mardi Gras party. This is why this festive day is celebrated by churches.

Mardi Gras is a pre-Lenten celebration, beginning on or after the Christian feasts of the Epiphany and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday (Shrove Tuesday). It marks the beginning of Lent and prepares for the fasting period before Easter.

This is how the date of Easter is determined each year.

It is determined through a calculation to find the first Sunday after the Paschal full moon, which falls on or after March 21, the spring equinox.

Orthodox Easter is the Sunday following the first full moon after Passover.

God makes several covenants in the Old Testament. Describe one of them and share one covenant you have made in your own life.

God's covenant with Noah: Never again will I use a flood to destroy all life.

God's covenant with Abraham: God will offer protection and land to Abraham and his descendants, but they must follow the path of God.

God's covenant with Moses: made with the people of Israel after he led them out of Egyptian slavery. God supplies the Law that is meant to govern and shape the people of Israel in the Promised Land. It is not a means of salvation but distinguishes the Israelites as God's chosen people.  It is a conditional covenant and defines blessings and curses based on obedience or disobedience.
