We do this______ before Salah, and it is like washing off __________ from our spirital selves.

wudu

washing of sins

based on this hadith-

Whenever a man performs his ablution intending to pray and he washes his hands, the sins of his hands fall down with the first drop. When he rinses his mouth and nose, the sins of his tongue and lips fall down with the first drop. When he washes his face, the sins of his hearing and sight fall down with the first drop. When he washes his arms to his elbows and his feet to his ankles, he is purified from every sin and fault, like the day he was born from his mother. If he stands for prayer, Allah will raise his status by a degree. If he sits, he will sit in peace.”

Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and Allah's mercy and blessings. Peace be upon us and upon Allah's upright servants. I testify that there is no god but Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. In the narration of Ibn Rumh (the words are): "As he would teach us the Qur'an."

it is said that having no khushu' in salah is a leaking bucket. what does that mean and what are consequences for not having khushu'?

lacking khushu’ in salah is like a leaking bucket. the same way as you pour water into a bucket that has holes, a prayer without khushu’ is standing for prayer and praying it but the deed being rejected because you were heedless in your prayer.

Allah said, "فَوَیۡلࣱ لِّلۡمُصَلِّینَ. ٱلَّذِینَ هُمۡ عَن صَلَاتِهِمۡ سَاهُونَ. which means "So woe to those who pray, but are heedless of their prayer"

the Prophet ﷺ said, “Indeed a person may pray for sixty years, yet not a single salah of his will be accepted.” and this refers to a person who prays salah without khushu'.

your salah will feel like a chore. (you wouldn't enjoy praying)

you wouldn't be able to restrain yourself from sins and shameful behavior.

if the word sunnah means recommended (it's not fard but highly recommended and if you do it, you'll be rewarded, why is it important for us to pray sunnah prayers?

the Prophet  said: “The first thing about which the people will be called to account out of their actions on the Day of Judgment is the prayer. Our Lord, the Exalted, will say to the angels - though He knows better: Look into the prayer of My servant and see whether he has offered it perfectly or imperfectly. If it is perfect, that will be recorded perfect. If it is defective, He will say: See if there are some optional prayers offered by My servant. If there are optional prayers to his credit, He will say: Compensate the obligatory prayer by the optional prayer for My servant. Then all the actions will be considered similarly.”

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said: Whosoever shows enmity to someone devoted to Me, I shall be at war with him. My servant draws not near to Me with anything more loved by Me than the religious duties I have enjoined upon him, and My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory works so that I shall love him. When I love him I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes and his foot with which he walks. Were he to ask [something] of Me, I would surely give it to him, and were he to ask Me for refuge, I would surely grant him it. I do not hesitate about anything as much as I hesitate about [seizing] the soul of My faithful servant: he hates death and I hate hurting him. It was related by al-Bukhari.
