What is the Salesian Charism?
The first year in Salesian formation, where one is immersed in community life, learning the Salesian charism and strengthening the foundations of one's interior life.

The father, teacher, and friend of youth established his Oratory Model as a "home that welcomes," a "school that educates," a "church that prays," and a "playground where friends meet."
Who is St. John Bosco?
Don Bosco's method of teaching which uses Reason, Religion, and Loving Kindness.
What is the Preventive System?
The second year of formation for the soon-to-be sisters, where one continues the spiritual formation of the year before through a deepening of the living of the Salesian charism in mission and community.
What is Postulancy?
This volunteer program is international and for the development of women and children.
What is VIDES?
Don Bosco took this saint, who emphasizes the virtue of gentleness, and this saint, who is a model of a contemplative in action, as patrons of the Salesian Sisters.
Who is St. Francis De Sales and St. Teresa of Avila?
He shared this same spirit with St. Mary Mazzarello when she said "Do the right thing, at the right time, in the right place, for love of God and one another.”
Who is St. John Bosco?
The two years where one studies the Constitutions and is the immediate preparation for making first vows. Also when one is first called "Sister"!
What is the Novitiate?
They run the VIDES missionary program.
A peasant girl from a small Italian town who became the co-founder of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians; she always encouraged her Sisters: "Unite yourself closely to Jesus, work only to please Him, try to become more holy each day. In this way you will always be cheerful."
Who is St. Mary Mazzarello?
These two aspects of the Salesian charism demonstrate the spirit of Fraternal Charity. (But it's for more than just your brothers--for family and friends, too!)
What is the Family Spirit and Holy Friendships?
The time period where Sisters make their vows and renew them yearly for 6 years.
