This patient is deceased and therefore triaged Black. This is a non-survivable wound.
A 19-year-old male with 2nd and 3rd degree burns over about 80 percent of his body. Respirations 24 and pulse about 120.
Yellow.
This patient is critical and may not survive. The patient doesn't fir the criteria for green/red. While it seems contradictory, yellow is a spot that meets the triage criteria and doesn't take the resources for a more salvageable red tagged patient.
A female, 23, suffers a blast injury. She is weak, pale and diaphoretic. Minimal bleeding noted. She is able to walk to the green zone but collapses and goes into Cardiac Arrest.
Black
A male follows your command to walk to the treatment area. He has a large thigh laceration. The bleeding is controlled and he has a radial pulse.
The patient has an injury that could be life-threatening but the bleeding is controlled. He requires follow-up care at a hospital so he is triaged Yellow.
A boy, 4, is unresponsive. He's not breathing. Airway is open and he's given two rescue breaths. He's still not breathing. He has no major bleeding.

RED (Immediate)
A patient with no radial pulse and no other conditions that would be considered incompatible with life is triaged RED.
A 15-month-old is carried to the treatment area. You can't arouse the child during the assessment and she has a contusion on the side of her head.
Red
A patient that fails to obey commands or make purposeful movements is traiged Red unless they have a condition or injury they are not likely to survive.
An unresponsive male patient has snoring respirations. His breathing improves when you open his airway.
If a patient with airway problems responds to minimal interventions, then he is triaged Red
A 57-year-old female has a deformed tibia and fibula. She is oriented with respirations of 20 and a pulse of about 100.
Yellow.
This patient doesn't fall into the walking wounded category and doesn't have outward signs of shock, elevated respirations or an altered mental status.
A male isn't moving, breathing at a slow rate with a weak pulse. He doesn't respond to painful stimulus. A piece of rebar is penetrating his skull.
Grey (Expectant)
A patient in critical condition with an injury that are unlikely to survive given current resources is triaged Grey.
A man's left thigh has blood spurting. You apply a tourniquet, but the bleeding continues. His pedal pulse is absent and radial pulse is faint.
A patient with life-threatening conditions such as severe, uncontrolled bleeding, is triaged Red unless they have a condition they are not likely to survive.
A 72-year-old male waved at you during the global sorting. He does not want to walk because he is short of breath and has chest pain.
Red
A patient with any form of respiratory Distress is triaged Red unless they also have a condition or injury they are not likely to survive.
A 66-year-old male patient is sitting on the ground. His eyes are open, but he can't answer or follow directions.
Red.
This patient can't follow instructions and has an altered mental status, which places him in the red category.
