Remember that we are supposed to seek treasures in heaven, not in this world. And that we are supposed to seek for riches to do good and to take care of the poor. Instead, the people had riches and purchased vain clothes and big houses and became prideful. They didn't care for the poor. So, the land became ca cursed land instead of a blessed land to the people.

It is a spiritual death. We can't be in the presence of God.
