An agrivoltaic system occurs when agriculture and solar panels coexist on the same parcel of land. Henry Williams and Max Zhang have studied how the placement of solar panels can affect both the efficiency of the panel and the surrounding crops. By using a computational fluid dynamics-based microclimate model and solar panel temperature data, Williams and Zhang claim to have found a "sweet spot" for the mounting height of the panels that will allow cooling for both the panel and the ground below, and therefore allow more types of crops to grow in dry, arid environments.

Most of the carbon emitted by human activity is absorbed by the ocean, yet modeling this process has been difficult to refine.
