Bessie Coleman (1892-1926) Bessie Coleman was the first African-American to earn an intentional pilot's license. She learned to fly in Europe because she was not allowed to earn a pilot's license in United States. After training for a year and earning her license she came back to U.S. She dazzled crowds with her stunts at air shows. She refused to be stopped or give up on her dreams because of racism, a dislike or disrespect of a person based on race.
