When the trailer tires do not follow the tractor tires
What is off-tracking?
This Team Member is responsible for the load securement of cargo
Who is the Savage Driver?
If these are not clean, they will not fully illuminate the road ahead of you
What are headlights?
This can happen if you are driving through standing water
What is hydroplaning?
Hearing a loud bang while driving could indicate this malfunction
What is a tire blowout?
Our steer tire tread depth requirement is 2/32” more than the DOT’s.
What is 6/32”?
This may happen when you cut the corner too sharply & is an immediate failure during a road test
What is curbing?
Following these will significantly reduce the chance of a spill
What are standard operating procedures (SOP)
When these are dirty or misaligned, your ability to see behind you is significantly reduced.
What are Mirrors?
Overbraking or oversteering can lead to this happening
What is Jack Knifing?
This unseen clear road condition will cause the roads to become slippery
What is black ice?
To calibrate these, press hard and hold for 5 seconds, then release fully. Repeat three times.
What are automatic slack adjusters?
Doing this before a turn will greatly reduce your risk of a rollover
What is slowing down before the turn?
These documents describe what and how much of an item is being transported and goes in the cab with the driver.
What are Shipping Papers or Bill of Ladings
To avoid being blinded by oncoming traffic’s bright headlights, you should focus your gaze here.
What is the white line to the right?
When experiencing a skid, this technique involves using the steering wheel to guide the vehicle back onto its intended path.
What is counter steering?
Drivers are often advised to take this action during extreme weather conditions, such as heavy snow or rain, to maintain safety on the roads.
What is slow down?
To ensure proper performance, these components must be checked for wear, cracks, and contamination and maintained at a minimum thickness of 1/4 inch.
What are brake linings?
This may occur if you are going too fast on a curve in the road
What is a rollover?
These are often issued to drivers if they do not properly secure their load.
What are citations?
These drivers are often on the road around the time bars & clubs close.
Who are drunk drivers?
Engaging this system in slippery conditions can lead to an uncontrollable skid if not used properly.
What is the braking system?
On steep downhill roads, especially in mountainous areas, these emergency lanes filled with gravel or sand are used to safely stop vehicles when their brakes fail.
What is an escape ramp?
Skipping this daily task risks brake failure due to condensation build-up, which can lead to corrosion or freezing in the air brake system.
What is draining the air tanks?
Doing this maneuver ensures that cars do not sneak by me when making a turn
What is a button hook turn or blocking the right lane?
This pattern must be used to secure a dome lid/manway to ensure proper positioning and to minimize any movement or shifting.
What is the Star Pattern?
To effectively combat fatigue and maintain optimal alertness on the road, this combination of habits is recommended.
What are a minimum of 8 hours of sleep, healthy eating, and regular exercise?
This deceleration device can cause you to lose control of your vehicle if used when slippery conditions exist
What is an engine retarder?
If this blows out while driving, the driver should avoid braking to maintain control.
