What is the stage?

We use this tool when dissecting our specimen. For safety, it should always be pointed away from you.
What is a scalpel?
Of the two lens you view specimen through, this is the one closest to the eye.
What is the ocular (or eyepiece) lens?
When viewing cheek cells under 100x magnification, you can see this organelle.
What is the nucleus? What is the cell membrane?
Sometimes referred to as the "blind spot", this part of the eye is where the retina connects to the optic nerve.
What is the optic disc?
This clear covering for the front of our eye helps with focus as well as protection.
What is the cornea?
We trim away this material from the eye first.
What is fat?
If the microscope view is too dark, adjust this to let more light in through the lens.
What is the diaphragm?

When moving the microscope, always hold the microscope by these two parts (one in each hand)
What are the base and arm?
This fluid fills the space between the cornea and iris.
What is the aqueous humor?
This layer of photoreceptors at the back of the eye is responsible for processing visual information.

When preparing a specimen for viewing under the microscope, you need to carefully place the specimen between these two things.

Because cows have fewer of these around their eyes, they must move their heads more than humans.
