What is natural selection?

Some individuals have features that make it more likely that they will survive than individuals who do not have these features.

These are called advantageous features, so the individuals are more likely to reproduce and pass on the genes (that produce advantageous features) to their offspring.

Over many generations, the genes that produce these features become more common, and the genes that are not so useful get a bit less common.
