True or not quite?
100

State Newton's third law of motion.

Every time one object exerts a force on another object, the second object exerts a force that is equal in size and opposite in direction back on the first object.

100

What is momentum?

Momentum is the measure of mass in motion.

100

How does increasing the speed of an object change its momentum?

Momentum increases.

100

Who said, “God does not play dice with the universe.”

Albert J Einstein

The thing in a car that make it go faster is called an accelerator?

True

200

What is a force pair?

The object of an action/reaction.

200

The momentum of an (blank) is the product of its (blank) and its (blank).

Object, mass, velocity

200

A car and a truck are traveling at the same speed. Which has more momentum?

The truck, if it has greater mass.

200

How dense is a neutron star?

Neutron stars are so dense that a teaspoon of them would be equal to the weight of Earth’s entire population.

200

You will find quantum accelerators in certain fast cars.

False

300

What is the action/reaction force pair involved when you catch a ball?

Force of the ball on your hand and of your hand on the ball.

300

What is the formula to calculate momentum?

p = m x v    or    p = mv

300

Give two examples showing the conservation of momentum.

Bat hits a ball, or two cars collide

300

Is outer space a vacuum?

Space is not a complete vacuum. There are about 3 atoms per cubic meter of space.

400

What's the difference between balanced forces and action/reaction forces?

Balanced forces cancel each other. Action/reaction forces act on two different objects.

400

Momentum can be (blank) from one (object) to another.

transferred, object

400

Give one example where momentum is not conserved.

Momentum is not conserved when an inflated balloon releases air but is held in place.

400

How do space rockets gain acceleration?

Practical space rockets, or launch vehicles, are made up of several rocket units joined together. This arrangement is called a step rocket. The principle behind the step rocket is that each rocket unit, or stage, fires for a time and then falls away when the fuel has been used. This makes the rocket lighter and enables it to accelerate faster.

How do Newton’s laws of motion apply to the motion of an animal, such as a cat that is running?

Force exerted by the cat overcomes cats inertia. The force a cat needs to accelerate depends on its mass. When running, the cat applies backward force on the ground and the ground applies forward force on the cat.

500

A man pushes on a wall with a force of 50 N.  What are the size and the direction of the force that the wall exerts on the man?

50 N in the direction opposite to his force on the wall.

500

What is Sir Isaac Newton's middle name?

There is not enough evidence to prove that Sir Isaac Newton had a middle name. However, it is often debated because some sources suggest that his full name was Lawrence Isaac Newton James.

500

Who fired the first liquid-propellant rocket in 1926?

Robert Goddard
