Rotating is motion around an axis. Revolving is motion around another object.

Why would life as we know it be impossible on Mercury?
Mainly because it has no air or water. Also it is too hot on the side facing the Sun and too cold on the side facing away from the Sun.
What is the definition of a planet?
A large body of rock or gas that orbits the Sun
