Explain the science behind how soap works to clean grime off your hands.

Soaps are amphiphilic (have a hydrophilic end and a hydrophobic end)

The tails, which repel water, surround grease + grime on your hands and trap them in a structure called a micelle when you scrub your hands.

The outside of the micelle is hydrophilic and sticks to water, so that when you rinse your hands, the soap is able to carry away all the oil and grease with it.
