What does WHMIS stand for
Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System
All living things have 6 characteristics:
All living things are made up of one or more cells.
Everything living must use energy.
They can grow and develop
Respond to the environment
Being able to reproduce
Having adaptations to the environment
What do transparent, translucent, and opaque mean
Transparent objects let all light pass through clearly, translucent objects scatter light so things look blurry, and opaque objects block light entirely
Why is a real machine's mechanical efficiency always less than 100%? What force is primarily responsible for this energy loss?
friction
What is the universal solvent
Salt
Explain, using the Particle Model of Matter, the four points
Everything is made up of particles
Particles have an attraction to each other
Particles are always moving
Particles have spaces between each other.
what the difference between plant, and animal cell
Plant cells are rectangular, plant cells have cell walls, and plant cells have cytoplasm
How do convex and concave lenes/mirrors work
Concave is inward, like the inside of a spoon
while convex is outward, like the back side of a spoon
What are the 6 simple machines
lever, wheel and axle, inclined plane, wedge, screw, and pulley
What type of water is drinkable
What is the difference between a suspension and a colloid? Provide an example of each.
Colloid is determined by the size of its dispersed particles and its stability. In a suspension, large particles will eventually settle out and can be filtered. In a colloid, smaller particles remain permanently suspended and cannot be separated by filtration.
EXAMPLES: MILK for colloid, Sand stirred into water for solution
the 12 or 11 parts of a microscope

What's the law of reflection
when a light ray bounces off a surface, the angle of incidence exactly equals the angle of reflection
If a driving gear with 30 teeth turns a driven gear with 10 teeth, what is the resulting gear ratio, and does this setup favor speed or force?
The resulting gear ratio is 3 :1. This mechanical setup favors speed over force
what is hard and soft water
Hard water is water with a high concentration of salts
Soft is water with a low concentration of salts
How does an increase in temperature affect the viscosity of a liquid versus the viscosity of a gas?
For liquids, high tempture it makes the viscosity less and less, and for air, it is the opposite
How did Francesco Redi disprove Spontaneous Generation? Describe his experiment.
Spontaneous generation is the false theory that living cells come from non living cells. Francesco proved that this theory was wrong by putting meat into three different jars, one without a lid, one with a mesh lid, and the last one having a closed lid. After waiting for a while, he saw that the jar without a lid, have flies swarming it, and maggots inside it, the one with mesh, having flies flying above the jar but not being able to go inside to eat the meat, and the one with a closed lid, not having anything near it or inside it. This proved that non living things (the meat), cannot produce living things (the maggots and flies )
How is a compound eye different from a human eye?
A compound eye is made up of hundreds or thousands of independent visual units called ommatidia, whereas the human eye is a single-lens "camera-style" organ
What type of lever is this (first class, second class, or third)

third class
how much percent of Earth's water is fresh water
2.5 %
Write a short paragraph to describe viscosity. Include at least
two examples of fluids, and use the words flow, fluid, particles,
and viscosity in your description.
Viscosity describes a fluid's internal resistance to flow. It determines how "thick" or "thin" a substance is. This resistance is caused by friction when the fluid's particles slide past one another. For example, honey has high viscosity and moves slowly, while water has low viscosity and flows rapidly

What does it mean to have an image of “high resolution”?
contains a large number of pixels
Describe two ways that the environment could affect the Development of new technology.
dictating the need for specific inventions to solve ecological challenges, and by providing the natural resources and raw materials required to build them
