What is the original source of all energy?

Sun

100

What is gravity?

objects being pulled towards the center of earth

100
Define matter

Anything that takes up space

100

Name an example of something in the Geosphere.

Land, Mountain, Canyon, rock

100
What percent of earth's water is salt water?

97%

200

The arrows in a food chain/web represent...

transfer of energy

200

_______ causes day and night

Earth's rotation around the sun.

200

Is Air matter? Why or why not?

Yes, because air can take up space when you fill something with it.

200
What event happens in our atmosphere

weather

200

Explain how particles in a gas state move

quickly and all over

300

Energy is used for these 4 things....

repair, moving, growing, body functions

300

_____causes the seasons

Earth's tilt on it's axis as it revolves around sun.

300
Name a 3 signs of a chemical change

Produces Gas, changes color, scent, light, and heat

300

How does erosion effect land?

Water can break rock into smaller places and move it to another area causing the land to change shape or be smaller.

300

What are the 3 states of matter?

Solid, Liquid, Gas

400

Plants use ______, ______ and ______ to make food.

sunlight, water and carbon dioxide (air)
400

Explain why the sun appears to be our brightest and biggest star

It's closest to us

Franky pours 10 grams of a powder into a 40 grams of a liquid. He stirs until he can no longer see the powder. What is the mass of his mixture?

50 Grams

400

Explain the water cycle

Water heats up causing it to evaporate. As it moves up, it cools and condensing into a cloud. Then it will precipitate (rain/snow). The water will accumulate back on the ground and it starts all over.
400

What is the conservation of mass?

The amount of mass will always be the same no matter what you do to it.

500

What would happen if the sagebrush plants all died out in this desert food chain?

sun -> sagebrush -> grasshopper->lizard -> hawk

The grasshoppers might run out of food and would either die or leave. This would cause the lizards to compete for a different food source or leave. If there are less lizards, the hawks would leave.

500

Which season do we have the longest shadows at noon? Why?

Winter. Because Earth's tilt on it's axis makes the sun appear lower in the sky and gives us shorter days.

500

What are the seven ways of identifying matter?

Color, shape, hardness, magnetic, reflective, soluble, texture

500
Explain one way humans effect our Earth Systems/Spheres

A researcher is testing how sunlight can effect plant growth. They have two tomato seedlings. They give one seedling 8 hours of sunlight a day. They keep the other seedling in a dark closet. They measure the plants height once a week. What is the independent variable? What is the dependent variable?

Independent- amount of sunlight

dependent- measuring plant height
