All forces consist of _________and __________.

Push and Pulls

100

The process of rocks changing into different forms due to different processes acting upon them is called what...?

Rock cycle

Red, black, grey, green, white are all considered what feature when talking about minerals?

color

What are some nonrenewable resources? INCLUDE the resources specific to FLORIDA

Oil, natural gas, coal,

FLORIDA IS known for these resources; phosphate limestone, silicon (silica)

Evaporation is the changing of states from _____ to _____ because of the Sun heating.

Liquid to gas (water vapor)

This force pushes down on Earth's atmosphere.

Hint: As you throw a ball up, why does it fall?

Gravity

This form of rock is formed when magma cools, one famous type is called Obsidian. This rock usually has a shiny/gloss to it. What type of rock am I?

Igneous Rock

200
The way in which a mineral breaks is called what...?

Cleavage

200

Plants may grow sideways because they are responding to the stimuli of the ________. Roots however are always going to grow down because of _________.

1) Sun

2) Gravity

200
This is water falling from the sky, can be seen in different forms depending on the temperature.

Precipitation

300

This force causes motion to be halted/stopped/slowed down due to opposing forces.

Hint: In class we tested cars on different surfaces.

Friction

300

This type of rock is formed from Heat and Pressure...

MetamorPHic Rock

How light reflects off of a mineral is called?

LUSTER

Describe the humidity, temperature and precipitation for Tundras, deserts, and grasslands.

These are all dry lands. So, they have low precipitation and low humidity. Their temperatures are what differentiate them.

Desert: Low humidity, low precipitation, high/hot temperatures during the day then low/cold temperatures at night

Tundra; "cold deserts" Low humidity, low precipitation, low temperatures (typically below freezing)

Grasslands: Low humidity, low precipitation, temperature varies

300

This is the process of water vapor cooling back into a liquid and creating clouds.

Condensation

Repel or Attract

1) N N (North North)

2) S S (South South)

3) N S (North South)

4) +  +  (positive positive)

5) -   -   (negative negative)

6) +  -   (positive negative)

1) Repel

2) Repel

3) Attract

4) Repel

5) Repel

6) Attract

**** Opposites attract --> come together (pull)

Same repel---> go apart (push)

This rock is recognizable for having layers, and it's the rock where you can find fossils within it.

Sedimentary Rock

Mohrs test is used for this. To determine this, two minerals are rubbed together which ever one leaves a mark on the other is "stronger"... what is this called?

Hardness

400

Wetlands like swamps, and rainforests are known for having what type of climate?

High Precipitation

High Humidity

High Temperatures

I have two cups, both filled with water and covered tightly with plastic wrap, with green color dye added to both. One cup has ice and one does not. Over time one cup will appear differently, looking cloudy on the outside of it, and wet. Why is it that?

Condensation.

The one with ice causes the water vapor in the air to cool which attaches to the cups and starts changing from water vapor (gas) to a liquid.

Two balloons were hanging from two strings and not touching. Then I rubbed one balloon on a piece of wool, now the balloons moved together and were attracted. Why is this?

To begin both balloons were not charged, once the balloon was rubbed on the wool it became negatively charged, and therefore was attracted (pulled) to the other balloon that had a positive charge.

This also happens in the laundry when your sock is connected to your shirt. The dryer charges up some items and once there are two opposite charges= attraction occurs.

This is the breaking down of the rock : (1)_________. Once it is broken into little (2)__________, these then travel to different spots due to wind/rain/water etc... this is callled (3)_________.

(1) Weathering

(2) Sediments

(3)Erosion

500

The colored powder that is left after you scratch a mineral on a plate is called what....

STREAK

500

A trait/characteristic that is passed from parent to offspring is called an _____________.

Inherited trait

I have two cups, both filled with water and covered tightly with plastic wrap, with green color dye added to both. One cup has ice and one does not. Over time one cup will appear differently, looking cloudy on the outside of it, and wet. Why is it important to use color dye in this investigation of the water cycle?

To show that the wetness/water outside of the cup is not from the water inside the cup itself (aka not the green colored water) but instead it's the water vapor from the air around the cup that's condensing and therefore when you touch the cup your hand does not change to a green color but instead the liquid remains clear.
