What is the ' Particle Theory'
A theory that describes the composition and behavior of matter.
100
What is a pure substance?
A substance that is made up of one type of particle.
100
A substance that is made up of at least two different types of particles.( Jeopardy)
What is a mixture?
200
Name the particle theories.
1. All matter is made up of tiny particles that have empty spaces between them. 2. Different substances are made up of different kinds of particle. 3. Particles are in constant random motion. 4.The particles of a substance move faster as its temperature increases. 5.Particles attract each other.

What are two types of mixture?
300
Explain the particles in the different states.
Solid- Particles are tightly packed together, not much energy to move apart. giving it a solid form. Liquid- Particles are close together but are able to flow past each other Gas - Particles have a lot of energy so they are very spread out and their forces of attraction does not have much effect on their behavior.

What are the two types of pure substances?
Elements and Compounds
300
A mixture in which you can distinguish between different types of matter. ( Jeopardy)
What is a mechanical mixture?
400
How does water change from a liquid state to a solid?
As the temperature drops, the particles start to loose energy and become more attracted to each other. Thus not allowing the particles to slide past each other, resulting in the formation of ice( solid)
400
What are the two types of compounds?
Ionic Compound- Includes Metal Molecular/Covalent Compound- Does not include metal.
400
A uniform mixture of two or more substances.( Jeopardy)
What is a Solution?
500
Is it possible for metal to change to a gaseous state? How?
Yes. If it is heated in extreme temperature.
500
Is water from your tap a pure substance. Why or Why not?
No. As it contains other types of particles such as dissolved gass.
500
What is an alloy? Give one example.
