What is a Metamorfosis

The process of a animal changing form during its life cycle.

1000

What is structural adaptations

Useful changes in the body parts of a animal.

1000

What is Mimicry

Looking or sounding like another living organism. They basically copycat another animal to fool their predators.

What is a example of Incomplete Metamorphosis

Grasshoppers have an incomplete metamorphosis, during which they develop wings.Grasshopper Incomplete Metamorphosis. The baby grasshoppers are much smaller and do not have wings. Over time, as they eat and grow larger and larger, they moult (shed their skin). Eventually, after a final moulting, they reveal their wings. Since they have a body part change, but they still look similar to their younger selves in other ways, the metamorphosis is considered incomplete.

What is a example of Natural Selection

2000

What is molt or molting

The process by which a animal sheds its outer covering.

What is Ecological succession

Ecological succession is the process that describes how the structure of a biological community (that is, an interacting group of various species in a desert, forest, grassland, marine environment, and so on) changes over time. Species that arrive first in a newly created environment (such as an island rising out of the sea) are called pioneer species, and they, through their interactions with one another, build a rather simple initial biological community. The structure of this community becomes more complex as new species arrive on the scene.

What is Natural Selection

the process whereby organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring. The theory of its action was first fully expounded by Charles Darwin and is now believed to be the main process that brings about evolution.

2000

What is a example of behavioral adaptations

Birds fly south in the winter. A characteristic in a plant or in an animal's body that helps it to survive in its environment.

3000

What is the life cycle

a pattern of birth, growth and death that all animals share.

3000

What is Camouflage

Camouflage is a visual disguise.  Camouflage is when the color of an animal helps it  blend in with its surrounding.

3000

What is a example of physical adaptations

The color of a mammal's fur, the thickness or thinness of the fur, the shape of the nose or ears, the eye color.

4000

What is a extinct species

When a species has no members left that are alive.

4000

What is Primary Succession

When everything in an area is destroyed, including the soil! Erosion needs to take place to break down the rock before there will be soil.  This type of succession takes much longer because the soil needs to developed first. Volcanic eruptions can cause primary succession to take place.

4000

What is a example of Chemical Defenses

A skunk sprays to defend itself from predators. Their spray produces a chemical that contains sulfur and the smell really stinks!

5000

What is a instinct

Behavioral adaptations or inherited behaviors that help animals survive.

5000

What is Secondary Succession

When everything in an area except for the soil is destroyed.  Once seeds are dropped in this area, the life will start to return. Forest fires cause secondary succession to take place.

5000

What is a example of Instinctive Behavior

  • Finding ways to gather food

  • Finding Shelter

  • Raising the young

  • Defending oneself

  • Hibernating (when an animal sleeps during the cold days of winter)

  • Migrating (when animals travel long trips to find warmer weather, food supply, and a safe place to give birth to their young)
