A grasshopper goes through an incomplete metamorphosis. A butterfly goes through a complete metamorphosis. Use these insects to explain the difference between an incomplete metamorphosis and a complete metamorphosis.
What is: A grasshopper looks the same during its entire life cycle. When a grasshopper hatches from an egg, it looks like a tiny adult. At each step, the grasshopper grows bigger but looks the same. The butterfly's appearance totally changes during its life cycle. The life cycle begins when an egg hatches into a caterpillar. Then the caterpillar wraps itself in a chrysalis. It emerges from the chrysalis as an adult butterfly.
