What is an insulator?

A material that allows electrons to flow freely through it.

500

How does the sperm fertilize the egg?

Fertilization in mammals begins when a sperm cell encounters and binds to the zona pellucida, the outer layer of the egg. This binding triggers the sperm's acrosome reaction, releasing enzymes that help the sperm penetrate the zona pellucida. The sperm then fuses with the egg's membrane, triggering the egg to undergo the cortical reaction, which prevents other sperm from entering and initiates development of the zygote.
