Define the terms abiotic and biotic. Give examples of each.

What is .....biotic is a living organism in an ecosystem(flower, fish, trees) abiotic is a nonliving organism in a ecosystem(rock, soil, minerals) ETC.

100

Define what an invasive specie is and what a pioneer specie is. Give examples of both.

What is......An invasive species is any plant or animal that has spread or been introduced into a new area where they are, or could, cause harm to the environment,.

100

What are some ways you can protect the environment?

Reduce, Reuse, Repair, and Recycle, Minimize Waste,Shop Wisely, Use Fewer Chemicals, etc

100

How would the removal of an apex predator affect the biomass pyramid and the rest of the ecosystem?

What is............Removing an apex predator causes populations of prey to increase, which can lead to  depletion of resources.

200

Define Biodiversity and sustainability.

What is....ecosytstem is the variety of life in the world or in a particular habitat or ecosystem. Sustainability is when we use eco friendly practices to help sustain our environment or in other word preserve.

200

Explain the differences between primary and secondary succession. Give examples of both.

What is...  Primary succession starts on bare rock or new land (volcanoes, glaciers) while secondary succession begins in areas with existing soil after a disturbance (fire, logging).

200

What are some of the Indigenous perspectives?

What is..... They want to respect and be grate ful the land, preserve the land for future generations

200

Explain why invasive species can reduce biodiversity in an ecosystem.

What is.....  Invasive species reduce biodiversity because they outcompete native species for food, space, and resources. They may also bring new diseases or have no natural predators.

300

Define an ecosystem

What is......An ecosystem is a community of living organisms

300

What is carrying cappacity and what are some things that might limit a carrying capacity?

What is... Carrying capacity is the amount of organisms an ecosystem can hold. Factors that limit carrying capacity include food/water shortages, limited space/shelter, predators/disease, competition, and nutrient availability, etc

300

What types of sustainable practices do the Indigenous peoples implement?

What is... they dont overhunt, they use only what they need, the go from place to place so that species have time to regenerate, etc.

300

Why does energy and biomass decrease as you move up the biomass pyramid?

What is........Energy and biomass decrease up the pyramid because energy is lost as heat at each trophic level, and organisms use energy for life processes.

400

Define what food chains and food webs are and what they show.

What is.. food chains and food webs are charts that shows diets of animals and how energy is transferred in an ecosystem.

400

What is Biomass. what are the trophic levels on a biomass pyramid. How much energy is transferred to each level.

What is.........Biomass is the total mass of living organisms in an ecosystem, represented in pyramids with producers  at the bottom, followed by primary consumers , then secondary consumers and tertiary consumers at the top, with only about 10% energy transfer

400

How to encorporate the Indigenous perspective into habitat and species management?

What  is.... creating stricter laws on poaching/hunting, making sure not to overuse.

400

Why are decomposers essential for the ecosystem, even though they are not part of the biomass pyramid's predator to prey structure?

Decomposers are key because they break down dead organisms and return nutrients to the soil, allowing producers to grow.

500

Define what producers, consumers and decomposers are.

What is ........ producers are organisms that make their own food, consumers get the food and energy from other organisms and decomposers break down dead plants and animals, recycling nutrients back into the ecosystem and they get their nutrients from dead organic material.

500

Draw a Biomass Pyramid.

500

What is IPM?

What is...Integrated Pest Management. Integrated Pest Management is a strategy used to minimize the damage done by pesticides by using natural alternatives of pesticide.

500

How can a small change in one abiotic factor cause a downfall in multiple species at different trophic levels?

A small abiotic change can reduce producer survival. With fewer producers, less energy enters the primary consumer trophic level causing declines in herbivores and then predators, causing a negative chain reaction.
