What evidence does the composition of soil provide about where it came from.

Soil is made of humus and rocks such as gravel, silt, sand, pebbles, and clay. In our investigation we found out that when we add water to soil and let it settle- it forms layers and based off of how much of each kind of material is in each layer- it gives us clues about where it comes from. Example- sand/desert     gravel/mountains    humus/forest.
