What is the independent variable?
The first thing needed to conduct an experiment (The first step in the scientific method)
What is a Question or Purpose?
Something that could be changed in another experiment, but the scientist keeps this the same in the current experiment (a type of variable).
What is a constant?
A scientist is testing the effect of light and dark on the behavior of moths by turning a light on and off.
This is the independent variable.
What is the amount of light?
The variable that you keep the same (so you can compare it)
What is control variable?
Final step in the scientific method that includes what you learned from the experiment
What is the conclusion?
A group that you "keep the same" so you can compare it.
What is the control group?
A scientist is testing the effect of light and dark on the behavior of moths by turning a light on and off.
This is the dependent variable.
What is the moths' reaction?
The variable you observe so that you can measure it
What is the dependent variable?
The 3rd step - your educated guess or prediction of what will happen in the experiment

An idea you can test (educated guess)

What is the change in temperature?
The height of each sunflower plant when watering them at different times of day (identify what kind of variable the height is).

The 2nd step - When you look for information on your topic (read or make observations)

What is quantitative data?
In a study to determine the effect of temperature on plant pigmentation (coloring of the plant), the dependent variable.
What is the amount of pigmentation?
A scientist waters sunflowers at different times of day to determine what helps them grow faster (identify what kind of variable the action of watering is).
What is the independent variable?
The step where you will sometimes have a data table or a graph to interpret (review for answers)
What is Analysis of data?
Data that uses words to describe things
What is qualitative data?
Use a graph, table, or other format to organize information collected in an experiment.
