What are the First THREE steps of the Scientific Method?
How do we complete step 1 and step 3?
1.) Observe (With our 5 senses)
2.) Ask questions/Define a problem
3.) Research (First, list questions. Second, search for answers. Third, analyze the findings. )
What are the two types of data we discussed?
**DOUBLE JEOPARDY***
What does C.E.R stand for?
Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning
What is a hypothesis?
What you predict is going to occur in your experiment.
An educated guess!
What is the name of Mrs. Sesmers dog???
RUBY!!!!!
**DOUBLE JEOPARDY***
Which step is the PURPOSE of a scientists experiment?
Step 2 (Ask question or define a problem)
Quality- What something is like. This is data involving words.
What step of the scientific method involved C.E.R? Tell me the number and what it represents really.
Step 7 - Share results
What three words are needed to write a hypothesis?
If... Then... Because...
**DOUBLE JEOPARDY***
What is the definition of "Claim"
Claim: A statement that answers a question.
What is step four? What is necessary for this step?
Step four is writing a hypothesis. The words IF... Then... and Becuase are necessary for this step.
**DOUBLE JEOPARDY***
What is Quantitative data?
Quantity. How much or many of something. This is data involving numbers.
Put the scrambled C.E.R. Response in the correct order.
Part A: The dog hands the man a bag of Doritos that says "You didnt see nothing."
Part B: The dog killed the cat.
Part C: I know that people bribe others to get what they want. In this case, the dog is bribing the man with Doritos in exchange for the mans silence.
Part B: The dog killed the cat.
Part A: The dog hands the man a bag of Doritos that says "You didnt see nothing."
Part C: I know that people bribe others to get what they want. In this case, the dog is bribing the man with Doritos in exchange for the mans silence.
**DOUBLE JEOPARDY***
What is wrong with the below hypothesis?
"I predict little timmy will be tired at school since he ignored his bedtime"
It does not have the words IF... THEN.. and BECAUSE
**DOUBLE JEOPARDY***
What is the definition of Reasoning?
Explains "how" or "why" the evidence supports the claim.
What is step 5 of the scientific method? What is necessary for this step?
Step 5 is writing your experiment. You need to list materials needed and write a procedure.
What kind of data did we collect when we did the lesson with the leaves? Explain how you know.
We did QUALITATIVE data. This data involved words and explained what the leaves were like.
Define Evidence.
The scientific data and details to support the claim. CONCRETE.
What is wrong with the below hypothesis?
"If little timmy stays up and ignored his bedtime, then he will be tired at school the next day because he stayed up and ignored his bedtime"
The IF and BECAUSE are the same and should be different.
List the 7 steps of the scientific method in order.
Step 1: Observe
Step 2: Ask Questions/Define a problem **The purpose of the experiment!
Step 3: Research.
Step 4: Create a Hypothesis (Prediction)
Step 5: Write your experiment
Step 6: Data
Step 7: Share results (C.E.R)
**DOUBLE JEOPARDY***
What is the definition of Procedure?
The sequential (1...2....3...) steps you take to find your solution. It is the directions!
What does "ABCDE" stand for when taking QUALITATIVE DATA?
A- Accurate
B- Big
C-Colorful
D- Detailed
E- Explained

Watch the above commerical. As a team, come up with a C.E.R. You only need one piece of evidence and reasoning to support your claim.
Option 1: The dog is trying to lose weight.I know this because in the video the dog is seen trying to get outside through the doggie door, but he can not get through. I know that dogs should be able to fit through doggies doors. This dog can not fit because he is overweight.
Option 2: The dog is trying to lose weight.I know this because in the video the dog is seen purposely dropping his ball down the stairs and then going back up them repeatedly. I know that taking stairs is a healthy natural form of exercise. The dog is pushing himself to work out.
Option 3: The dog is trying to lose weight. I know this because in the video the dog is seen not eating the food the small child dropped on the floor. I know diet is an important part of maintaining a healthy weight. The dog is trying to not eat people food and focus on his own special dog food to stay healthy.
Write a hypothesis for the below scenario:
Bobby Jo is eating WAY more candy than he is allowed. How is this going to effect him?
IF bobby jo eats way more candy than he is allowed THEN he is going to feel sick BECAUSE eating too much of something sweet can cause stomach troubles.
**DOUBLE JEOPARDY***
Mrs. Sesmer is going to display an image. Think of TWO pieces of qualitative and quantative data.
Mrs. Sesmer will approve. :)))
