The first step of the scientific method.
What is determine the problem / ask a question?
A testable prediction.
What is a hypothesis?
The steps scientists follow during an experiment.
What is the procedure?
Information and observations collected during an experiment.
What is data?
This acronym helps us organize our data on a graph.
Testing the hypothesis with a step-by-step procedure. (This is the fun part!)
What is an experiment?
This type of variable is changed/manipulated during an experiment.
What is the Independent Variable (IV)?
Summarizes the experiment and states whether the hypothesis is supported or rejected.
What is the conclusion?
Descriptions of observations.
Ex: Plant leaves are dry and yellow.
What is QUALITTIVE data?
This variable is located on the Y axis. (Hint: it is the measured variable.)
What is the DEPENDENT variable?
The part or group in an experiment that is not tested or changed and is used for comparison.
What is the control (group)?
What we carefully notice using using the five senses - what we can see, taste, smell, hear, and touch
What is an observation?
This type of variable is measured during an experiment.
What is the Dependent Variable (DV)?
Numerical measurements collected during an experiment.
Ex: 50ml of water, 10 inches, etc.
What is QUANTITTIVE data?
This variable is located on the X axis. (Hint: it is the manipulated variable.)
What is the INDEPENDENT variable?
